The Return Journey – Home to God

ReturnJourney“Our return journey to God is possible only because he first journeyed to us. Otherwise, it would be impossible …

“Be reconciled to God” …

Be reconciled: the journey is not based on our own strength. No one can be reconciled to God on his or her own.”

(Homily of His Holiness Pope Francis, Ash Wednesday 17 February 2021)

As we go further on our Lenten journey towards Easter 2021, Pope Francis’ words at the 2021 Ash Wednesday Mass at Saint Peter’s Basilica are worth revisiting.

They remind us again of the meaning of this Lenten journey and its place in the bigger journey of our lives – a wholehearted journey, free from fear, towards our Father God, Jesus and the Spirit Giver of Life. Lent takes us forward on the journey of life, reconciliation, forgiveness, healing, grace and mercy, joy and love. It is a return journey - that we do not undertake alone - home to God who comes to meet us.
