During April 21-23, the Sandhurst section of the Knights of the Southern Cross (KSC) Golf Club Inc. conducted their autumn tournament at the Tocumwal Golf Club. Twenty members and their guests enjoyed the spirited competition over three rounds. On Thursday afternoon, some elected to play Bowls while others played a friendly 9 hole Ambrose; both were fun ways to build relationships and teamwork.
The weather was superb. Both courses were presented magnificently. The bunkers, for those who found them, were many and in poor condition. The resort was friendly with the Clubhouse just a short walk from the Motel. Some members were a little mystified by the need to paint the fairways. As one wag put it, ‘it did help to show the straying golfers where the fairway really was.’
The Wednesday champion was Ross Galvin on 32 points whilst Phil Masterson triumphed on Thursday with 38 points. He backed up on Friday with 37 and those two rounds enabled Phil to claim bragging rights as the Grand Champion. Futhermore, as President, after his welcoming words Phil left with the Barham Cup, the trophy from a tournament which began years ago at the Barham Country Club.
The next event on the Calendar is during Queen’s Birthday weekend in June, when the Annual Competition between Victoria and South Australia is to be played at Horsham. In our spring season the tournament is held at Trentham; then Geelong holds a tournament early in the year.
Membership is open to Catholic men over the age of 18 and new members are always welcome.
