By Jenni Kennedy

Fondly known as Mons. Peter, the esteemed clergyman has dedicated six decades of his life in service to the church and the community, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

The church was filled to overflowing as a large gathering of well-wishers poured in from far and wide to join in the festivities and pay tribute to the incredible milestone of Monsignor Peter's devoted service.

Archbishop Peter Loy Chong travelled all the way from Fiji to officiate at the Jubilee Mass, his high regard for Mons. Peter was highlighted during his homily where he recounted his time in the Seminary when Monsignor Peter was Rector of the Pacific Regional Seminary in Suva Fiji. The Archbishop was joined by clergy from the Sandhurst Diocese, Melbourne Archdiocese, interstate and overseas clergy from Fiji and New Zealand.

Adding to the celebration, the vibrant and tight-knit Samoan community played a central role in honouring Monsignor Peter's Diamond Jubilee. Dressed in traditional Samoan attire, members of the community showcased their rich cultural heritage through an awe-inspiring dance performance during Mass and at the dinner.

Local dignitaries and community leaders also attended the event to extend their congratulations and appreciation for the invaluable contributions made by Monsignor Peter to the spiritual and social fabric of Shepparton. Many cited his selfless dedication as a guiding light for others to follow and emphasized the positive impact he had on fostering a sense of community and unity.

Following the Jubilee Mass a dinner was held at the GV Hotel in Shepparton where tributes were expressed by a number of people, including former Director of Catholic Education Sandhurst, Phil Billington. A special presentation was made by the Samoan community as they prayed over Monsignor before he joined them in dance on the stage.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt speech from Monsignor Peter, expressing his gratitude for the support and love he received from the community over the years. He humbly acknowledged that his journey as a priest would not have been possible without the unwavering support of his family, the congregation and his fellow clergymen.

The Diamond Jubilee of Monsignor Peter Jeffrey will undoubtedly be etched in the memories of all who attended, as an inspiring testament to a life dedicated to faith, compassion, and service. His legacy will continue to shine bright, inspiring generations to come in their own spiritual journeys and acts of kindness.

On behalf of the Catholic Education Sandhurst community Monsignor Peter was gifted a one-hour joy flight over the Goulburn Valley region.
