L’Arche Opens ‘Isabella,’ a fourth Home for Adults living with Intellectual Disability

By Margaret Segrave

Over sixty guests, including representatives from Brisbane and Melbourne L’Arche Communities came together on 23 February for the official Opening and Blessing of ‘Isabella’, a home in Strathdale, and a fourth residence for the L’Arche Bendigo Community.

The theme of the celebration was ‘Peace’ with reference made to St Isabella of Portugal, the Patron Saint of Peace, who dedicated her life to the care of the poor and needy and who had a gift of bringing peace to those in her company.

Jake Mudge, Parish Priest of St Therese’s Kennington blessed 'Isabella’ and together with Claire Lawler, National Leader of L’Arche Australia, officially  opened this new home for adults living with intellectual disability.

A plaque, L’Arche emblem and decorative cross were placed in the home as symbols of the occasion.

All enjoyed L’Arche hospitality with a delicious afternoon tea and an invitation to enjoy the amenities of the home.

L’Arche (The Ark) is an International Federation of faith-based communities working to create networks where people with and without intellectual disability live and share lives together.
L’Arche has its roots in the Christian Gospel, and communities today are shaped by people of different faiths and traditions.
